This lesson uses the example of a race car, Jeff Andretti's 91' Lola, hitting a wall during the Indy 500 at high speeds to teach students about energy transfer, force, motion, material design, and the real-world application of safety measures in motorsports and vehicles. Follow our students as they interact with subject matter experts to learn what happened to Jeff and improvements that have been made to keep drivers safer.

    Jeff Andretti, son of racing icon Mario Andretti, is a former IndyCar driver who earned the 1991 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year. Jeff shares his life-changing crash in 1992 during the Indy 500 as the foundation for this lesson.
